Reflection

Experience
Throughout these 14 weeks, I have really enjoyed my time in this module. Ms Anis and Ms Jennifer have made the class fun and helped us a lot in lectures, tutorials and consultations. I was able to learn a lot about Adobe Illustrator and constantly improve my skills on it through doing all the exercises and projects. By being someone who doesn’t have any experience on Illustrator before, this module felt like a crash course and boot camp to the software. But no matter how hard it may be to use the software, it is an essential skill to have as a designer and it can be very helpful at times.

Other than that, I also learnt a lot about colour choices, compositions and visual storytelling in general thorough this module. I got to apply this knowledge the most in the projects of this module and it helped me to gain a clearer understanding of them, which in turns helped me in my other modules too.

Observation
In the past weeks spent with this module, I find myself tend to pay more attention on the composition, lighting and colour choices of illustrations or any kind of visual I see in my day to day life. I realized that these aspects can make a big difference when creating illustrations and learning how to use them to our advantage can help us to create a good visual design.

Findings
I found that when making illustrations, narrative skills is just as important as technical and drawing skills. Even if the visual output looks great, without a story or narrative behind it it’ll make the illustration lack meaning and feels less interesting. Plus, with an already thought-out narrative, it’s able to help in the visual design by determining what element to include and the intentions behind it.
