For our data collection, we started with coming up with the questions that we want to ask for our questionnaire and on an online forum website called Reddit together. After that, we thought about the people that we can interview and the person who suggested the interviewee are in charge of coming up with the interview questions, while for articles, we each are tasked to find any articles that are able to answer our research questions and note down the passage that we can refer too.

Since I suggested my relative for us to interview for our data collection, I wrote down some questions that we can ask which relates to her work but also is able to help us answer our research questions. I also included a question about tarot cards design to help us decide later on which design idea from our proposal is the most suitable to further develop as our final outcome. After we agreed on the questions, I then sent them to my relative through Whatsapp messaging as you can see in the evidence in the final presentation slides. I've also written down the interpretation for the answers of each questions as well, the final version can be seen in the final slides.

r/tarot and r/TarotDecks post (26/1/2022)

For the reddit posts, I helped out in posting our questions on various subreddits on the website. I posted the first few questions on on r/AskReddit since it has a more wider and general audience. For the tarot cards questions, I posted it on r/tarot and r/TarotDecks as both subreddits have different groups of audience. We decided to post the same questions we asked our first interview on reddit as we wanted to gather more opinions on it.

As for the article research, I managed to find credible academic sources that are related to our topic and are able to answer our research questions as well. I then written down my findings and discussions on it to explain apotropaic magic based on the references I've read.

Finally, we compiled all our findings in a presentation slide and recorded our presentation as well.

Feedbacks

Week 5
Great findings. Write down a conclusion, perhaps we can sum it up in terms of cultural perception. For example, the fact that the believe in protection using evil is nothing new, it can be seen it's practiced across different cultures and its even more prevalent now because of current situation. Etc. So that it can be linked to our tarot card ideas in our proposal.

Reflection

Experience
Throughout this project, it was an interesting learning process from interviewing, engaging in online forums and reading on articles. I find the most fascinating part to be reading on the opinions we gathered for interviews, online forum and questionnaire, especially questionnaire where we got a lot of insights from people with different experiences. All these data gathered definitely helped us form a clearer path on where our design direction should focus on.

Observation
I observed that choosing a topic that has sources which we can gather easily in online learning is an important consideration when it comes to doing data collection through online means. Our topic is not very well-known so there isn’t a lot of expert sources available for us to get the kind of information that we want, so we had to think of a solution for that problem while collecting our data.

Findings
I found that there are a lot of ways to go about collecting data for a topic like ours. Since the topic we chose isn’t largely known and harder to find the exact right person to interview, so we would have to think out of the box in find people who are somewhat related and ask questions in a way that we could also get information for our topic. In other words, collecting data isn’t always a straightforward process but sometimes it needs some workaround to get across a problem.
